Giving a new buzz to an old tradition

130+ years later

The Weavers started keeping bees in Lynn Grove back in 1888. After well over a hundred years, they decided to create a little buzz with that honey in 2019. Well, they decided in 2018, but it’s taken us a bit of time to get here. Regardless, we are proud to introduce WildFlyer Mead Company. Handcrafted right here in Lynn Grove, Texas. Just keep zooming out on the map to the right. You’ll eventually figure out where we are. Chances are, it’s not too far from you. And we’d love to meet you.

Find local businesses, view maps and get driving directions in Google Maps.

The Wildflyers

We Wildflyers are a dynamic foursome, composed of a couple Weavers and a couple Murrays. The Weavers’ path to mead is pretty obvious. They are beekeeping magnates. The transition into making booze from all honey they have lying around is pretty straightforward. The Murrays’ path is a bit less clear, until you read any “Our Story” page on any brewery/winery/cidery/meadery/-ery website. They started homebrewing, and then voilà! Except in this case, Jeff realized he is the greatest mead maker in the world…so what choice did he have!?

They came together through a simple Facebook post. In summary, it went like this.

Laura - “We want to sell alcohol, but this dang county is dry!”

Dan [who happens to be both a lawyer and bee whisperer] - “Fun Fact: The state lets wineries sell booze in dry counties!”

Chelsea - [scrolling Facebook] “Jeff, remember BeeWeaver, where we bought our first nuc of bees? I think they want to start making mead. But surely they don’t make as amazing mead as you do.”

Jeff - “Let’s move to Grimes County and start a meadery with the Weavers!”

Destiny.

Dan aka the Drone bee - Dan is impossible to track down. He’s always all over the place doing a million things at once. I realize that drones really only have one job…but it works. Don’t argue.

Laura aka the [self proclaimed] Queen bee - It’s even in her email signature!! But seriously, she pays the bills, so she gets this title.

Jeff aka the Worker Bee - Jeff is the mead maker. The Artist, if you will. He makes the magic happen. By magic, that really means dumping and mixing honey, chopping fruit, etc.

Chelsea aka the Nurse bee - Chelsea gets to deal with all of Jeff’s shenanigans. Yes, I realize that nurse bees don’t take care of the worker bees, but I don’t get to make the caste’s rules.
